The Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation, an animated film which tells of the origins of the Care Bears and their Cousins, was released in the US on 21 March 1986 by Columbia Pictures, and was produced by Canadian animation giants, Nelvana Limited. While commercially marketed as a sequel to the first Care Bears Movie, released on 29 March the previous year, chronogically it is a prequel dealing with how the place known as the Kingdom of Caring came to be, and how True Heart Bear and Noble Heart Horse (see profiles in article) raised the then-orphan Care Bear cubs in their brand-new home.
This second film, attacked by critics upon its original release, only made around US$8½ million in the US--almost a third of what the 1985 movie took in ticket sales. A third, last, and least successful big-screen feature, The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland, arrived in American theatres the following August.
